Academic Support helps students develop the study skills and habits of success needed to tackle their Monmouth coursework.
Services We Provide:
Subject Tutoring: Tutors support a student’s academic success by assisting them to become independent learners at the college level. Check out the tutoring schedule for a list of available tutors and walk-in hours. Tutors may also be available to schedule one-on-one appointments outside of walk-in hours. Email tutors individually to arrange a one-on-one meeting.
Supplemental Instruction:Supplemental instruction – known as SI – is a peer-led, academic assistance program offered in especially challenging courses. SI leaders are students who have taken the course and performed well, and because they’re familiar with the content and instruction, supplemental instruction is a step beyond traditional tutoring. SI leaders review course content, lectures, and major themes, in addition to helping students with assignments. See SI schedule
Academic Coaching: Academic coaches work one-on-one with students. They help students develop custom strategies that will help them succeed – such as time management, exam preparation, and note-taking techniques. Contact our office to discuss arrangements for a meeting with an academic coach.
Individual consultations with professional staff to address academic concerns, such as time management, exam preparation, and note-taking techniques.
Study Habits You Can Try Today!
Make a Weekly Study Schedule: Treat studying like a class by making time for it in your schedule.
Find Your Study Zone: Library? CSB? Quiet dorm lounge? Try to find what works for you. For many students, going to a public space can lead to a huge boost in productivity.
Use the Pomodoro Technique: Study 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break. repeat. It keeps you from draining all of your mental energy into work with no reward.
Use the Feynman Technique: Try teaching the concept to yourself (or a friend) in simple terms.
Review Every Week: Don’t cram! Regular review helps material stick and reduces stress before exams. Sleep quality is highly important for memory function, so pulling an all-nighter does more harm than good.
