Hands-on experience

Our students gain practical experience through internships, independent study and vibrant co-curricular activities, including opportunities with campus radio and TV stations and our student newspaper, the Courier. Our graduates pursue fulfilling, successful professional careers spanning a variety of fields, including journalism, hospitality, human resources, higher education, social media and public relations.

Professor Trudi Peterson received the 2019 Hatch Academic Excellence Award for Distinguished Teaching. Peterson’s nominator for the Hatch Award wrote: “You HAVE to take a class from Trudi Peterson.”
Zack Johnson '15 screened his documentary Dirty Laundry in October 2019 on campus. The award-winning film follows Zack and his cousin as they ride their bikes across the country speaking to people about connections between asbestos and mesothelioma, the disease that killed their grandmother.
Monmouth and Knox College students got the opportunity in October 2019 to learn about narrative and journalism from Pulitzer Prize-winner Ira Glass, left, host of the award-winning public radio show This American Life.
